Same here, supposed to be replacing brake shoes today, I've been out twice when it's sunny so far and both times it's belted it down while I was struggling into the overalls. First time it was hail, which stings on the old bald patch.

Not quite got the bald patch there yet but its definitely thinning from the front I'm getting a doo-rag, caps just fall off and the sound of weld spatter sizzling on my head is not giving me confidence.Part of landy ownership though 'ferrous dandruff' I asked ages ago why nobody sold head shoulders and kurust shampoo.

Derek Warmer indoors ain't it

That wouldn't indicate more wong that a decent service might cure. Remove strip, clean, reassemble and lubricate. Not just the Bendix but the solenoid as well, if thats a bit stiff it might not be bringing the contacts as hard together as it should and it doesn't take much resistance to stop a starter motor performing well.

Double check that the engine block earth straps are all present and in good condition contact wuth the block/chassis at each end. I know you mentions the cables but it's not just the supply the several hundred amps starting current has to get back to the battery to complete the circuit.
