RS componants

I need a thermostat for a pair of kenlowe fans as the old one is dead. Whilst I don't mind the kenlowe stuff I begrudge paying over the odds. The genuine item is about 30 to 40 quid, however RS stock one for 12 quid. Dose RS serve members of the public? We do have an account at work, and I have in the past used it but when it's for non work related stuff even when I pay for it myself, the accounts department start throwing their teddy out of the pram big time.

They did do direct sales via credit card at one point but I understand that it all fell to bits as people were buying just one item for a few quid and RS deliver free...

Your friendly local radio amateur shop will probably have an account...

Tried buying online? Many "trade" places will accept plastic without question. Is the part a specific RS one or a generic? If RS fails try CPC they will sell to anyone with plastic money.

Don't recall RS selling to the public last time I tried to used them - like you, I used to use the company account no.

Have you tried Maplin?

Last time I tried ordering anything from RS I think they were going to charge me £16 for postage and packaging, for a £2.50 capacitor.. Places like RS stock the kind of things that Maplin etc don't, hence them only getting small sales to people like me, if I want a 320v 6uf capacitor then RS stock it but charge massive postage. I got it from a small specialist company in the end.

I think CPC are the public face of Farnell though, might be worth trying.

AFAIK you can buy using a credit card at an RS trade counter, if you have a convenient one.

ive bought a few odd fittings and things through them as a member of the public over the last couple of years. (they sell the funny clips that the 101fc uses to hold down the engine cover and nobody else does) Postage is often more than the actualy item though! :(
