yep,
seems to be a pain that one.....
I've got fed up with my email being forged, so I've got a digital signature from Varisign (or what ever they are called) so when any one gets a mail from me, with out the sercurity cert. they can delat it:-)

I'm not sure how this can actually really help.
Maybe using (free) pgp to sign messages will help varify that you are who you say you are, but only if others you are emailling use pgp.
Certificates from the likes of Verisign (probably the most expensive of vendors) are more commonly used for SSL (secure web sites).
Yes, Verisign seems a bit of overkill, though such "official" signatures are useful if you want to fill out certain government forms on-line.
In my experience, such forms have needed supporting paper documents to be sent, so the on-line form and signature seems a bit superfluous.
I suppose it is down to personal preference. Cost 14GBP a year, which I don't think is expensive, it keep me safe in the knowledge that all my stuff I send is defiantly from me.
I think it can help, because if they open a mail which is not signed by me, and the get a viruse, it's not my problem, if however the virus arrives on a signed email, then I can do something about it.
PGP is good, but some of my friends wouldn't know, PGP from a PC, the digital cert. is more or less friends fool proof:-)
I still think the best way for stopping viruses getting on to your PC is keeping the DATs up todate, and the scanning engine itself.
:-)

Must be a lurker, no posts from that IP address ( pipex ADSL IP addresses aren't dynamic ) on my news server, which goes back to the beginning of the year.
