Re: Seriously considering a GX 470

Wouldn't you know it, my wife has been going at me since last night to get the LX 470, which means there's a chance I'll have to go that way, so guys GX or LX which is better and what should I expect to pay for each...

Sonny (PS I'm gonna get the night vision if I get the LX....I should get at least one toy if my wife gets to choose the car)

BE SURE your wife tries out those funky "strap on" third row seats. That was a deal-killer for us.

Got my wife the LX and can't get her out of it!! Whenever I drive it I'm amazed at how well this truck is built. It is pricey, but it drives like no other truck we tested. As far as the cheesy third row straps, we barely use the thrid row so that's a non issue for me. F.Y.I. I drive a Navigator with the motorized

3rd row and that's a super sweet toy. To bad its going to cost me $2,000 to fix it after the warranty expires. Those straps on the LX won't be breaking down so fast and if they do, $50 tops to repair.

Thanks for the info, so what does the GVWR of the truck have to be for it to qualify for accelerated depreciation by the IRS?

Thanks Sonny

Over 6000 lbs GVWR. The magic word is OVER. I would expect Lexus will fix this on the 2004 models, but I have not seen any official word.

Very true. Unfortunately being a physician I can't make use of the nice tax deduction, or so my accountant says. So if you are a realtor or have a business which qualifies you for the deducation, get an LX470, H2, or other monster.

If you can't legitimately claim your SUV as a business tool then the GX470 is a great choice. I hear that there will be no change in weight for the 2004 model year, but it is too early to know for sure.

Check out this GX. It is a real dealer in the South Florida area. Don't this bogus:

Do we live in a screwed up country or what, with tax laws that encourage people to buy obscenely inefficient trucks, even as we fight wars to maintain our sources of cheap oil.

Why not call Lexus at 1-800-25-LEXUS option 4 and ask them for the date and weight.

There is no change in the GVWR for 2004

Wow, Lexus really has a finger on the pulse of the marketplace! I wonder how many more vehicles they would sell by adding one pound to the GVWR? I'm scratching this model off of my short list.

I called the this number and the rep told me that she didn't have the specs for the '04 model yet but hopefully will have them next week. I'll post the answer here when I find out. I was told the '04 model will be out in October. She was well aware of the IRS Section 179 code also.
