VSC and ABS lights

Recently my 1998 LS400 is having its VSC and ABS lights come on and off together. The car seems to run perfectly even with the lights on. Is there anything wrong with the ABS system? Is it OK for me to bring the car to independant shops to diagnosis such problems?

Any tips appreciated.

Thanks

If the ABS and VSC lights are illuminated, then the ABS and VSC systems are probably not working, most likely due to a component that is common to both systems, like a wheel speed sensor. A reputable and competent independent shop should be able to diagnose the problem.

Got a hot tip - I hear lucky lady in the 5th is good for 2nd place.

As to the car problem - take it to the stealership and let Hiro and Schiro work on it. You have no need to take it to an independant shop since you have already diagnosed such a problem exists.

Can the sensor be replaced by myself, or is it something that only a shop can do?

Thanks

A wheel speed sensor is pretty easy to replace. Remove the wheel, check sensor output, unbolt the sensor, unplug the sensor, bolt in the new sensor, plug it in, replace the wheel.

To check sensor output, unplug it, connect a volt meter to the sensor terminals, spin the rotor, and look for voltage when a hub tooth passes the sensor and no voltage when a gap between the teeth passes the sensor.
