See if you can decipher this slightly annoying problem.
Year 2000 Golf. (But still a MKIII as it's a hairdresser's ragtop).
1.6 SOHC. Same engine as fitted to Golfs since Victorian times.Runs perfectly apart from starting from stone cold where it needs nursing on the throttle until there is some heat in the engine. Once it's run for maybe
1/4 mile it's fine all day. Up to that point it would cut out if it isn't kept awake by judicious use of a bit of throttle. Always but always starts - with a bit of throttle when cold. Otherwise starts with no throttle required when warm.Thought it might be the coolant temp sensor as that is one of the inputs to the ECU. Fitted a new one. Made no difference.
Car does not have an IACV, but has a motorised throttle body which controls idle. This is working freely and idle is perfect when the engine has any heat in it at all. Just cuts out when stone cold.
Any ideas anyone ?
