Astra Mk3 changing fan switch

Jul 23, 2008 9 Replies

Hi,

my radiator fan switch is just random now, so I really need to change it. I had a little go at removing the connector plug to suss out the procedure, but it wouldn't come off easily and I didn't want to break it.

Any hints and tips about changing these, I'd obviously like to lose as little coolant as possible, and not break stuff in the process.

Cheers,

Actually I'm assuming the switch is knackered, but it might just be the connector which I can't get off. When I tap the switch it switches on and off.

Those mk3 astras live forever don't they!

I bloody hope so cos right now I'm skint!

Beakers would be a good place to have a poke around for a new switch for a few quid.

They're standard blade connecters so if yoiu do break it then you can rewire it easily, photograph it first so you can tell which wire goes where. If it's working when you tap it then you'll probably find it's very rusty/corroded when you get it off.

The switches are cheap enough new that it's not worth it, the breakers will be the cheapest place for the connecter though, you can see if they're knackered.

Ah, that sounds better, so I should just be able to lever it off then. I didn't know if there was some kind of latch, it's difficult access and hard to see down there .......

Cheers,

Gareth.

Yeah, stop being a puff and pull the damned thing off. It's welded on by years of corrosion so it's going to require a good pull. If it breaks, it would have broken anyway so you're in no worse position.

Tesco are doing really good led torchs for a tenner:-)
