cam belt gone

I was driving on motorway and the power just went.RAC indicated CAM belt had gone resulting in major expense.

Local research indicated that it would be 3k to recondition engine. As there was 170k motorwary miles on the clock of the 6 year Ford Puma, anbd the feedback is it is now bust, is it worth trying to resurrect or accept it goes to scrap. If it goes to scrap, do i pay for this versus is there any way i could get dome money for it...............

Strip it and sell on eBay. You will probably make a good few hundred at least

Why not try for a secondhand engine if all else is good? Won't be anything like 3k for one.

THREE THOUSAND POUNDS FOR A RECON PUMA ENGINE? Where the f*ck you buying it from, Harrods? Even Ford don't charge that for a new one.

It's a Zetec. Specialised Engines in Grays, Essex do recon Zetecs for just over £1200 inc VAT.

A recon is just over £1200.

And that fits itself, doesn't it?

The OP hasn't told us which engine his car has. If it's the 1.7, it may be a bit more than that...

The 1.7 isn't 'any old Zetec' either.

Wasn't it a Puma specific application? - which would make finding one a little tricky.

£150 to fit it.

Either way, he'll have change out of £2000.
