Combo (Corsa) 'lekky problem

Dec 11, 2008 2 Replies

I've a Combo (Corsa derived) van with the 1.7 Diesel Isusu engine.

When started from cold and for the next few miles (especially at tickover) I notice that all the light bulbs on the vehicle are pulsating with brightness. It's seems always to be at around 2 pulses/second irrespective of engine RPM. (or thereabouts) The ''fan'' belt is tight.

Any ideas what causes this? The anomaly seems to disappear when the engine is warmed up.

iirc they have a (troublesome) relay for the charging, maybe that is clicking in and out till warmed up?

Likely to be the 'after-glow' control system pulsing the glow plugs to smooth-out the idle during warm-up. May be more noticable if the alternator/battery is not at 100% output, so may be worth checking the alternator output under load.
