I'm enjoying life (sad, I know!) with my first compressor (belt-driven, twin-pot, 100ltr). Are there any general dos and don'ts to look out for in owning, using and maintaining a compressor? For example, is it okay to leave it pressurised with air or should the tank be emptied?
The manual is very thin gruel to say the least!

I see no reason why it should not be kept pressurised. I do.
You should have it pressure tested every so often (10 years I think) in case it blows up.
Drain the water out of the tank each day - certainly before frost gets to it.
Make sure the water traps to the airline are empty - particularly if you are using it for spraying.
Make sure these are no leaks, so that when it's left unused it isn't coming on every so often to replace the leak.
Can't think of anything else.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember "Jerry" saying something like:
What Rob said, plus keep a regular eye on the oil level - numerous ones get wrecked because they're forgotten about.
I don't know what Rob said, because his post hasn't appeared on my screen. But just in case he didn't mention it, regular draining of the condensation in the tank, especially in this weather.

Strange, that. I wonder why this happens. The converse seems to happen a lot, i.e. the same post appearing again after the first one.
