couple of respray questions

Hope someone around here can help..

I'm sure I remember reading, years ago, about an outfit which had set up what amounted to a production line approach to do cheap and cheerful (but not totally naff quality) resprays - the volume of work making a cheap deal possible. I

*think* they went so far as to offer a same-day service, if my memory isn't failing me - you dropped it off in the morning, you picked it up with an exterior respray completed that same night. It was a feature in Motor or Autocar I think. Can anyone point me in their direction?

Failing that, anywhere that does a cheap, nasty and fast (but not totally dodgy) respray service, anywhere along the M4 or M5, or London area. The vehicle being sprayed is 100% fibreglass so there's no rust issue, and no damage to repair - just a freshen up in the correct colour - and I do NOT need quality (long story; I could tell you what I'm having resprayed but you wouldn't believe me!)

Thanks!

AIUI, cellulose based paints now have legal restrictions on their manufacture and use; this will have made cheap respraying uneconomic.

Somebody was telling me the other day about an outfit that resprayed his largish car for £600 - £200 of which was materials. A couple of minor blemishes and masking rather than removing, but otherwise very decent quality indeed - and had stood up well, three years later.

But it was in Scotland.

Fibreglass. Too embarrassing to identify. Is there a shortfall in the front wheel department?

FUCK THAT. It'll be totally naff. You can't even do the prep work properly in a day, let alone 4 coats of paint that each need 20 minutes apart for drying.

Well you'd not get it. Expect overspray, runs, reactions...

Fibreglass is actually a specialist job and not run of the mill.

in view of the size of vehicle and its value I would get out the gear and do it myself, with spray cans if necessary. No reason you cannot do a very reasonable job if you have a bit of manual skills.

Much much much worse.

OK OK I give in.

Sounds promising, one of the possible final destinations is Scotland. Got any more info?

With or without the giveaway in the file name?

It's a Landie 101.

it was on telly, it is based on a landrover 101, but I can't remember what it was built for, was it on space 1999 or UFO or blakes 7 or one of those?

Clearly, Mike, the clue in the file name was too subtle for some...

aaah, of course, I just clicked it and assumed he couldn't spell!!!! I was in the right sort of genre though, some points for trying? Anyway, it was on a TV programme last year about cars in the films, or Landrovers or something

Mine was sprayed Dreadful Blue for advertising purposes. I loath this with an abiding hatred. It's supposed to be yellow & black:

Hence the need for an urgent respray!

It's probably going to be 'weathered' as they were originally as film props, and probably hacked about a bit (hence me not being worried about quality) but I can't abide that blue (hence the need for fast & cheap respray!).

They made 30 for the movie, about 8 or 9 still exist, only 2 or 3 are road-legal; mine is one.

With the large area to be painted I would ask around for a company that paints coaches.

That is not a bad suggestion.

Or I might just hire a compressor and give it fast blow over myself.
