diesel pump lube

I've been hearing a few reports of problems on Focus diesel pumps - there are some people who have pumps with failed rollers and injectors full or metal swarf. It's not yet known if this is a major problem or just the occasional premature failure but people are pointing at low sulphur diesel and it's lack of lubrication.

Does anyone know of fuel additives that are capable of help in this situation? Assuming they are not too pricey it seems worthwhile dosing the fuel on a regular basis especially since it will probably help upper cylinder lube as well. I'd move to 5% biodiesel but there isn't a filling station near here and the price is so high that an additive for normal DERV is probably cheaper!

TIA - and I hope Santa brought you all something nice. My brother (confirmed petrolhead - hates oil burners) gave me a burnt out glow plug.....

The general problem with these failing is some batches of pumps were made with inferior rotor vanes, which as you say fail and bugger not only the pump but the (expensive) injectors too.

Ford are aware of the problem, but at the moment are refusing to pay anything towards a new pump unless the car is within warranty.

Bugger :(

Not a fuel problem AFAIK. Are these fuel injector pumps mechanical rotary type made by Bosch? If so, a batch slipped through made from inferior material. This should be covered by warranty because we all know it to be a manufacturing fault and the vehicles may be less than five years old. Yes, I know Ford only have a three year warranty but it is still a manufacturing fault which should be rectified by the manufacturer, Bosch, and sorted on a local level by Ford dealers IMO.
