In which case you *definately* have bent valves caused by either a broken belt / sheared teeth, or a snapped cam shaft. Check it again.

Aye, it could have slipped a few teeth and bent the valves. Or it could be the crank shaft/cam shafts - take the cam cover off and see if they spin.
JWhat caused the problem was a small sprocket that held the belt in place, metal fatigue had caused it's failure and allowed the belt to slip over a few teeth, hence valves wrecked, car was scrapped yesterday rather than re-build.
