Quite, *quite* sure. On acouple of engines, they also bypass the intercooler and deliberately raise boost pressure to increase charge temps. Remmeber post-injection is employed so that the fuel begins to burn as the exhaust valve opens, so it needs all the heat it can get.

Hmm, I just would have thought in the big scheme of things, the amount of heat that glow plugs would provide to the exhaust on an un-throttled engine would be pretty tiny, like a match in a gale but maybe that's a bad analogy.
Anyhow, a bit more googling confirms that glow plugs may be invoked for regeneration.

Yup, I used to work for Lucas CAV ;-), fitting the turbo diesel starter motor was a more permanent fix.
Ee, we never 'ad no turbos back then. One thing I will say for the burning rag - it worked, without fail, every ice-cold morning. S**te Old Series II pickup with a Harvey Frost lifting hook on the back of it. By f*ck, that was a tough old bastard.
Yup, our forklifts still got flamestart. (Well since I fixed it)
