Headlamp circuit

Have a 95 Corolla 1.3. The drivers side headlamp bulb in the dipped position recently went on the blink. So I replaced the bulb. Looking carefully at the bulb the filaments still seem fine.

On replacing the bulb, the new one worked in both the dipped and the full beam positions. But it only worked for one day and now again its gone off in the dipped position.

On the full beam on the drivers side it still works O.K. (although its not quite as bright as the passengers side on full beam). But the dipped position is still not working.

What might be the best way for a novice to go about tracking down the cause of this problem please? Thanks.

first see whether the bulb has blown, if the bulb is good then the next thing most likely is the fuse for that side dipped beam.

Could there be an intermittent earthing fault? (The current will be passing through one filament, to the non working earth connection then back through the other unpowered filament to the fuse box then back to through the unpowered filament in the other headlight then to the earth for that headlight. This torturous path may be why things are dim or not bright enough to be seen. )

Check for corrosion around the earthing point or use a multimeter to check that there is a good connection to the chassis for at least one of the headlight connections. Wiggle some wires to see if things change.

Might not be this though.
