heater controls when draining coolent.

when draining the coolent to replace a thermostat on a 95 corolla, should the heater control best be turned to the cold or hot setting? I was told this some time ago and cannot rememeber which way around it was and cannot also work out what difference it would make. Thanks for any advice.

many modern vehicles it will make no difference, but the advice is always to turn the heater controls to hot, the reason is so that water can drain from the heater (if it has a valve) In practise it will make no real world difference in 99 per cent of cases.

Long ago, the water flow through the matrix was turned on and off to adjust the temperature, but on modern vehicles air flaps send air through or bypass the matrix so it should not make any difference how you set the temperature when draining or refilling the system.
