Is there something I don't know ?

Today a lovely young girl came up and said 'I like your car' , a while later she came and asked if it was for sale, later she came and gave me her mobile number and asked me to think how much I wanted for it.

The car is a 24 year old XR4x4 !!!!! reasonable but not concours.

Is there some cult thing about it? or what? I know the girl and have done since she was tiny, what is going on?

She wants to check the comfort of the back seat :-}

I don't believe that even for a moment. She claims her husband is looking for an XR4x4 since he had one before and wants another. I'll have a look on auto trader and ebay, there might be a clue.

Pikeys!

I've got two old 3l cars on sorn parked on driveways and get at least 2 knocks on the door per week.

"Is yer car for sale" "No" "Why, i'll buy it?" "its not for sale, I'm putting in back on the road" "but if you did want to sell it, how much would you want for it?" "Its not for sale" "go on, how much?" "I'd want a grand" "HA, I only want to buy it to weigh it in, I'd give you £50!" "BUT ITS NOT FOR SALE!"

I've even got signs saying "NOT FOR SALE" on them.

Pillocks.

if they were scrap, I'm quite capable of getting them to the scrapyard myself!

I have often had that, including one kid that claimed his dad was looking for a trailer, and would I take a thousand pounds for mine? No, No and goodbye were the only answers, anything else would have opened up a whole new battery of questions. My neighbour found someone trying to tow away my spares kit for my camper, they claimed they had just bought it from a black man in the pub, my neighbour said 'someone is lying here' They left.

And here's me thinking she was lining something up for her husband.

My housemate sold his for more than it had cost him over the 3 years he owned it incuding the insurance etc. (He hadn't gone very far in it though), if you like them I can't think of much else similar.

I'll tell her, I hardly ever go past there since Devonshire Road opened, but I'll make a detour and look myself.

Yes. The 80's is well and truly back in vogue.

She's blind.

Mate had one. Did they all knock out front prop shafts? That was expensive.

A bloke at work is getting over the mistake of thinking a Sierra with Cosworth V6 was a drift car. But he couldn't bring himself to bite the I4 turbo bullet and has got a 328i.

My Niece doesn't want a "blobby" modern car. She's taking about a MGB. So which/what? GT Coupe or roadster? Rostyle or wires? Grill or rubber? Old tax exempt or late 70's?

mgb has to be a chrome bumper tax exempt with wire wheels (not the hard top GT) , there are some rebodied ones about that should be rust free (comparatively)

The all synchro box is an improvement on the original.

MK1 MX5 in something like british racing green. Speaking as someone who has grown up with EFI, cars with proper distributors (as opposed to the ones just used by the EFI system as a trigger) and a carburettors are the work of the devil. For a start she'll be sick of the performance of a Renault Twingo with the fuel consumption of an M3, then there will come leaks, rust and unreliability.

You might have something there, and a clip on hard top will give better security and weather proofing for the 362 days a year when it rains/snows/hails here.
