Mazda 2 2011 2Ts - increasing coolant strength

The manual of this car suggests that you go to your dealer re- this subject, but I only need to increase the coolant strength from its -17°c to cater for expected -18°c and basic instructions would be appreciated. The car is fairly new and I know how the radiator drains excess moisture into the reservoir and then draws upon the latter as needs be. I also know how to drain the reservoir and is here where I need help. Is there another 'plug' which drains the radiator or should I simply add stronger antifreeze to the drained reservoir so that the latter can circulate through the system?

Practically, that'll work fine. Generally the bottom radiator hose is th= e =

easiest drain point, but if you just want to strengthen the mix 0.5L of = =

neat antifreeze in the reservoir will be fine.

Thanks. When I drain the reservoir does that also drain the radiator?

No, but it'll circulate within an hours running.

As you can see I know very little about this. At the moment my car is fully topped-up with coolant so I need to drain the reservoir of 0.5L of coolant to make room for the 0.5L of neat antifreeze which I am going to add and then I need to run around for one hour to aid circulation of the mixture.

In one of my car manuals, I think the LR Freelander one, it says to always top up the expansion tank with anti-freeze, as it gets weaker with age. I do it anyway - it's got a slightly leaking radiator, so needs doing every couple of weeks.

Get a turkey baster. Removes 30-50ml a time.

Commonly used to freshen up PAS fluid by emptying the reservoir and refilling with fresh a few times.

Does it have a proper expansion tank or a traditional overflow tank typical of most japanese cars? If the latter you'll have another cap on the radiator itself. Probably best to top up at that point too. Overflow tank will take a long time to mix in...

The radiator and the expansion tank both have caps so I take your point.

If the expansion tank has a simple screw cap and is vented top up at the pressure cap - on the rad.
