Some people take a failure as some sort of personal attack! Remember how people used to book their car in for a "Pre-MOT Check"? what a waste of money. Some people also use the impending first MOT as a reason for changing their car - amazing!

I genuinely cannot remember when any car of mine ever failed an MOT test - it was certainly back in my younger days when I had little option but to buy and drive old sheds because that was all I could afford.
Certainly the last seven cars I have owned never failed an MOT. I put it down to DIY servicing. No-one has more incentive to do a service meticulously than a conscientious owner...
I pulled alongside someone recently and told them that they had a brake light not working. They replied that the car would be going for an MOT in a couple of months and it would get fixed then! I think that caring for a car is a "generation" thing. People now seem to be quite proud of being hopeless - it seems to endear then to a particular type of woman.
I recall taking my grease-gun on holiday with me as the king pins on my 1959 Beetle like to be greased every week or it became a bit rattly.
