odd brake problem

I believe the brake shoes are the right way round but have to trust the garage to have done it correctly.

So far:

New wheel cylinders New auto-adjusters (from Ford) New brake shoes Drums inspected and no signs of excessive wear - no lip on the edge. Thorough bleeding with LOTS of fluid pushed through the rear brake nipples. I am confident there is no air in the system. The brake pedal is rock solid and the front brakes working well. There are two separate brake circuits from the master cylinder, split diagonally. As both front brakes are working fine I can't see how there can be a problem with the master cylinder. All four wheels have their own brake pipe going right back to the cylinder. The rear ones both have pressure regulating valves screwed into the master cylinder and then the pipe screwed into the valve. The valves are entirely independent of each other.

You can still turn the rear wheels with not very much effort while someone is standing on the brake pedal.

New ideas more than welcome! This is getting to be a bit of a joke.

yes some brake figures would be a help to work out the efficiencies, as i said in an earlier post fiesta rear brakes have a very low braking efficiency but still pass.

There was, but if it's a true 4 circuit diagonal split then it won't make much difference, next obvious step is to try testing the load limiting valve. How easy was it to bleed the rears?

I didn't bleed the rears, the garage did, but I can only assume it was OK.

The load limiting valves are completely separate and independent as they are in separate diagonal split circuits. I find it rather hard to believe that they could have both failed together.

What about the rear flexible hoses? Could they have collapsed internally and be restricting flow or pressure? Yes - I know I'm clutching at straws.

Back to my original guess. The pressure limiting valve. But don't have a clue how it works on your car so can't help - other than suggesting you replace it. And if it's part of the master cylinder, still can't see another option.

There are TWO pressure limiting valves and they are completely independent of each other. They just screw into the master cylinder and the rear pipes screw into them. Is it really likely that they have both failed?

As likely as anything else given the work done. If they are prone to failure - I dunno.

It's a bit the same as looking for a fault in the brake light circuit when neither bulb works - only to discover both have failed.

Saying it is unlikely because there are two applies to any faults on the rear brakes...

remove the valves and screw the pipes straight into the cylinder and carefully test for any improvement.

It's possible, but it should be obvious when bleeding the rears, if thhe pedals firm & no fluid comes through then you'd hope the garage would notice.
