One crappy lead

Any logical reason that one HT lead shoud foul up at the ignition module ( didtributor in old money ) It happens to be the shortest and closest to the supply, and it was all connected OK.

Damp and poor connection. Poor quality lead.

Mondeo 2.0 Zetec had the same problem. The cylinder close to the DIS pack would have the lead break down, and cause a misfire.

Apparently the voltage is so high, that it finds it easier to arc to the block over the spark plug than jump a 1.3mm gap.

The solution was to close the gap to 1.0mm, and it was fine.

A guess would be that if a resistive lead as most are being shorter it is carrying more current than the other ones.

there is also a difference in that the modern coils are double ended which gives one positive spark and one negative, this wears the plugs and leads differently.
