The most likely explanation. But IMO that should be described as a p/s problem, not a failure. Mike.
Why "problem" and not "failure"? Just because the failure is transient doesn't mean it isn't a failure. This used to happen on my old 7 series BMW and the steering would become unbelievably stiff. I'm not a small bloke and I would struggle to turn the bugger whilst the assistance was inoperative.

Just down to terminology really. I did say IMO. Personally, If something stops working only under particular circumstances, but otherwise works correctly, calling it a failure, IMO again, can make it sound more serious than it usually is.
Failures are much more serious than problems. :-)

My SD1 Vitesse has the same problem if driven through a few inches of water. Down to the position of the p/s belt, rather than anything else. The belt is tight, and correctly adjusted, but most vee belts will slip if flooded with water. Expecially under load. Mike.
