Yes, never had mine looked at, certainly not removed wheels. Are MOT testers allowed to remove ANYTHING? I mean some specialist cars have full under-body trays etc covering most of the things you'd look at (pipework, some joints, suspension mount areas etc) - do they "get away with it" or can you refuse to test it if its not got the trays removed?

Grimly Curmudgeon mumbled incoherently to the rest of uk.rec.cars.maintenance:

(Thumbs up from me) with my '91 Celica that never fails :)

Coyoteboy ( snipped-for-privacy@hotmail.com) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying :

Ah, gotcha. My 'pologies.

You may very well spout complete bollocks on occasion, but this isn't one of those instances...

I spoke the truth thinly disguised under a badly worded veil :) The rest of the time you might call my bluff with no excuse lol.

certainly not removed wheels. Are MOT testers

cars are tested as presented. Not just specialist cars, but most modern cars have some from of undershield, which makes our job of fully inspecting the vehicle that much more difficult, these are not allowed to be removed by ourselves & are not a reason for a " refusal to test " now if you present a car that has a lockable fuel cap and cannot be readily removed that is a " refusal to test " even before the test has begun, which does upset some vehicle presenters, ho hum.

Perhaps I should add to my organ donor card "... and the Spirit of Ecstasy that you'll find rammed up my jacksie if I was knocked over by a Silver Ghost with only rear-wheel brakes"

In the end it's all about the balance between cost and benefit - and I think that the totality of human happiness might be increased further if I didn't have to hand fifty quid over every year for 20 minutes work and

40 minutes hanging around to keep up the garage's average MoT time. The totality of my happiness certainly would be.

Autolycus mumbled incoherently to the rest of uk.rec.cars.maintenance:

LOL I see your point! Strange though,im fairly sure my MOT place overlap appts because as soon as mines finished up on the ramps another goes in, 25 mins maybe?
