Peugeot 206SW fuel meter reading wrong

Last night I put a £5 in the tank and getting back in to drive away noticed that the meter was still where it was before I put the petrol in (about 1/4 full). I parked it for the night and haven't used it since.

Today I put another £5 in and the meter still says 1/4 full.

Is the meter likely to be faulty? Do these fail often? If so am I looking at the sender or the meter?

The car is a 05 plate with 27k on it.

Thanks

Thomas gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying:

Fill it. If it stays at 1/4 full, you've got a problem. Lobbing a few litres in at a time won't prove anything.

That is what I suspected. I'll try it. Thanks for input.

I put £20 in one go and watched the gauge. It suddenly 'jerked' and shot up. Been fine since. The float must have been stuck.

Cheers

an old fiat I had many years ago had a similar fault, it was caused by a damper tube that is meant to stop the gauge flying up and down, in my case the tube had bits of rust flakes in it which jammed the little piston.
