Why would this make you nervous? surely if ford recommend 100 thou miles it'll be their fault if it breaks before hand - will it not?

Because if it snaps, valves meet pistons and I'm without a car until I find the small fortune it'll cost to put right.

before hand - will it not?

Maybe, but I can't imagine them saying "no problem sir, although the car has been out of warranty period for a couple of years, we'll replace the engine free of charge" ;)

Might be worth asking ford will they honour this 100thou agreement - the belt isn't likely to snap without a fault like a seized water pump etc! anyway.

When the Focus head at the garage came back from the engineers they said they do a lot of those as the tensioner colapses at 50 to 60k.
