Saxo VTR flat tyre/handbrake cable

Just wondering whether a garage will replace a spare tyre while the handbrake cable has snapped???? Is it possible to do, i dont want to take it in to be turned away. The tyre is nearly flat so need to get that done before it is totally flat.

If you know enough to be on Usenet, you should know there will always be people who just want to wind you up. If you go off in a hissy fit at the first one you'll never get the answer you came for.

Having said that, he was actually right. It would be up to a garage whether they wanted to do it or not. I'd think they probably would but they would push you quite hard to get it fixed while it's there. technically it's not roadworthy and probably they could be held liable in some way if they let you drive it away like that...

If you take the wheel off and carry it in it gets round all the issues.

Re-reading your post you said 'can they replace a spare wheel' - have you actually got a puncture or just a flat spare?

Sorry about that, i have got a puncture on the back tyre, the one that the garage fitted only 2 weeks ago

Pump it up! Or do you mean a puncture?

If you get the puncture repaired before it goes flat you'll be able to afford the new handbrake cable :-)

I would hope it is a puncture as i have only had the tyre for 2 weeks

Really you should take it off, put the spare on, and drive to them with it. If you drive on it while it's flat(ish) for any distance they may legitimately say you have knowingly damaged it beyond repair and refuse to touch it.

If you approach them nicely they should at the very least redo it properly, free, and if you mention the handbrake cable and ask for a discount they may do that too...

Unless they find a nail in it, of course. Then it's your problem.

gararges dont use a handbrake for tyre changes. they have big f off trolley jacks. And level floors.

Why wouldn't they? Is the handbrake cable wrapped around the tyre or something? It wouldn't pass the MOT as worthless as the MOT test is these days.
