My 14 car has a scratch about 4 inches long, not very wide. The primer is showing but is not damaged (No metal showing). The car is blue and the primer white so it stands out a mile.
Is there anything I can use myself to fill/remove the scratch. If not how much can I expect to pay for a specialist to do it?
A mobile scratch repair place will charge about 60 quid. and will do a nicer job than an amateur is likely to.
Thanks just seen something called 'Quixx' on ebay. What do you think of that?
That looks to be the same stuff that aldi sell. It is a tiny bit of fine wet and dry and two different grades of polish, it would be fine for a bit of minor scuff damage, but not where the paint has actually left the area. I found it was really useful for restoring plastic headlights.
In your case you first need to replace the missing undercoat, paint and restore the damage/paint to the same height as adjacent existing paint, once that is done you need to blend it all together, put on top coats and then lacquer to achieve a reasonable repair (and that is a precis.) A bodyshop would paint the entire panel to achieve a near factory finish and would charge around 200 pounds.
If the car is not recent or special then have a go yourself, haynes actually do (or did) a good book (american based) which covers similar repairs quite well, and you will need to spend maybe twenty to fifty quid on paints, filler, wet and dry etc.

If the primer is intact then a small bottle of touch up paint may be all that is required. Discard any paint brush that comes with these touch up bottles and buy a very thin artists brush. The type that you can get
5 or 10 for a quid in pound shops will do. Throw away after use.It will take time and a second application may/will be required. After painting leave a few weeks and then a light T-Cut application.
