Smoking Mercedes van...also...

Just had a furkle under the engine cover to find breather hoses.

How does a garage actually do a compression test on a diesel??

If it's the most obvious way, using the glow-plug holes, the f*****s at the garage haven't even touched them! They're bloody difficult to get to and there's dust all over the wires.

Si - getting slightly irate.

Garages will do as little as possible and then charge you for what they haven't done. Most are on a par with double glazing outfits. If you really believe in the term 'garage servicing', then you're living in cloud cuckoo land. Do you really think that they give a rats arse about your car - all they're really interested is the cash. My car will never go near a garage again, unless absolutely necessary (tyres, exhaust etc). This was my philosophy for over thirty years and I never had any problems. Problems only started when I was able to afford more recent models and had to subject them to the dubious so-called 'garage servicing'.

No, they do it through the injector holes. At least they used to. Don't forget many diesels don't(didn't) have glowplugs.

Ah right. I didn't even look to see if they took those out - too many wires and pipes :o)
