Long shot, but BMW dashboard repairs..

Oct 02, 2003 5 Replies

BMW 540i Auto (E39 1998 reg), I would like to get the trip computer / mileage display repaired or replaced.

all the feeds to it appear to be ok, but the actual readouts are a case of join the dots.

Don't seem to be able to find a breakers anywhere in the country that has a working one, or indeed a breakers anywhere in the country that has even broken a 540i yet.

BMW want the best part of £650 to fix the bloody thing, something to do with the dashboard being programmed with all sorts of weird details about the individual car, chassis number, paint code, options fitted etc. Supposedly £500 just for the clocks and panel. If I can find another dash, I can get it recoded elsewhere for £80, and that includes keeping the correct mileage. I've been quoted "around £280" to get the matrix board replaced and recoded.

Anyone got any ideas?

Have a lot in the back pages of BMW mag for car dash repairers. Not sure their name now.

try Jason or Dave at FAB.

They get quite a lot of E39s in. cheers, JB

JB waffled on in a quite bewildering manner to produce...

fragrance and beauty direct? They do bits for BMW dashboards?

Ta anyway, I'll do some googlage for them.

According to the experts on the E39 forum, it can't be repaired - it's too densely packed. Think hard drives...

They're up in Coleford/Cinderford arent they? My dads used them before - very good. Website address is wrong tho....
