tracking question

Hi just had the Fiesta MOT'd at ATS - Passed but tracking needed doing, now while driving in a straight line the steering wheel is off centre! I take it they can adjust it so the tracking is OK and the steering is centred? at =A324.99 for what was 5mins work should I take it back to be redone?

Yes and complain loudly.

Staffbull explained :

Take it back and tell them to do it properly, if they know how.

The easy way to adjust is to do just one end/one wheel, but it ends up with the steering off centre. Done correctly adjustments need to be made at both wheels to retain the steering wheel centring.

Thanks, will do tomorrow!!

The tracking is NOT part of the MOT. There is no requirement to have correct tracking at all.

If the tracking is to be checked then steering wheel should be centred and held still and the tracking set on each side as needed.

Ask for a refund and get it done somewhere that knows what they are doing.

And make sure they don't 'fix' it by just taking the steering wheel off and putting it back on straight, or your self-cancelling indicators won't work properly*

  • on some cars.

Well only indirectly, as if it's wayout the tyres are far more expensive.

Before it's checked or any adjustment made the steering wheel should be locked in the correct position, sometimes you can get that a degree or so out so go back and ask them to reset it.

On 17 Oct, 01:35, "Fred" doing, now while driving in a straight line the steering wheel is off

took it back, now done, the steering wheel was about 10-15 degrees out,now it's fine
