Water Leak on Clio

Nov 28, 2006 5 Replies

I have 1 1994 1170 engine Clio its the energy version, (e7) i think.

It has developed a water leak roughly a pint per 20 miles. The oil looks black, the water doesnt seem creamy in the expansion tank.

Any idea where to start looking cant seem to find any drips yet.

Thanks

Darren

Check the radiator and all the pipe joints around the engine for crusty deposits where the water may be leaking from. Usually you see crusty green deposits where water is leaking from. Otherwise the cylinder head may be leaking straight from the water jacket into a cylinder bore. If that is the case, whip the plugs out and look for the extremely clean one. That bore will be the culprit.

The message from "df" contains these words:

It may be leaking past the head gasket into the combustion chamber, though usually (but not always for some reason) this would normally pressurise the cooling system when running.

Any sign of bubbles rising in the header tank?

No thers no bubbles in the expansion tank. Theres some white deposits on the radiator though it may be where the leak is. Ill double check tomorrow.

Thanks for all the good advice.

Darren
