Where to put brake fluid...

After changing the brake fluid in a couple of cars, I'm now left with rather a lot (by my standards, anyway) of used DOT4 brake fluid to dispose of.

Question is, what do I do with it? Oil I can just take down the tip. Anti- freeze can, allegedly, just be chucked down the foul sewer (the toilet, not the drain in the street!). But where can I chuck brake fluid? It's not miscible with oil, so presumably I shouldn't lob it into the council's oil recycling thingy. I s'pose it's based on ethylene glycol, the same as anti-freeze, but I don't like the idea of slinging it down the bog, either.

So - anyone know what I should do with it...?

Cheers,

Brian.

Ethylene glycol (antifreeze) and polyethylene glycol (brake fluid) are totally different beasts. You could drink a small amount of ethylene glycol (**don't**) without it doing you too much harm. A similar amount of polyethylene glycol would almist certainly be fatal.

Don't flush it down the sink/toilet.

Oil collected at local recycling centres gets incinerated. This is a good way of getting rid of PEG. I dispose of mine with my waste oil.

Oil I can just take down the tip.

I would have thought so.
