Which Old cars Use Inductive-Type Tachometers

I need one. Seem to remember the Hunter had one where the coil wire simply looped through the back of the device without actually braeking the wire or drawing any power from it, but that was 20 years ago. Does anyone know of any more modern make (i.e. of an age likely to be down the scrappy) that use a similar tachometer arrangement ? BTW its for a vehicle wit electronic ignition which categorically states you must not connect a standard tachometer to the coil LowTension wires.

do a search on aviation groups for "tiny tac" it is a digital display tac used in microlights which uses a sensor wire which is wrapped around for 3 turns to the H/T lead and no physical break or connection is required. About £40. skydrive is the name of the company which sells them , but they tend to charge excessive amounts of dosh

They probably mean the side of the LT that goes to the switching unit. But most modern revcounters simply take a sniff of the positive loom going to the coil - there's enough of a pulse on that to trigger them.
