Not sure if this version is only available in the UK but here's an interesting write-up about it. The reviewer thinks it's got "too much power", making you want to take it out on the motorway all the time and making it not as enjoyable as the base model when driving in the city.
He also mentions it's a bit cramped for him at 6' 3'', with him bashing his head on one of the roof rails. He's also not sure about the appearance, and I'd agree with him - it doesn't compare with my '91 I reckon :-)
20 inches? Not enough in my book. I just got my 26" Dub Bellagios mounted. I had to custom offset them by a few feet each to clear the wheel wells.
It rides a little funny now, but it is so kewl......I have wanted gigantic heavy wheels that spin when I am sitting at lights ever since I saw a set of spinners for the first time.
The wheels were also only $2061.00 each, a true bargain for such performance. The 305/35/26 tires are also very reasonably priced. ;-)
Get some farm tractor wheels. Most farmers simply throw the tractors away when the tyres are worn out, but they make perfect racing slicks then. 48" wheels should silence even the brashest of boy racers, but you may have to roll the arches slightly.
The lights were one of my first modifications when I got the car about a year ago, but I went with a blue/green combo look.
It also has a wing that puts any ricer to shame, type "R" badges everywhere, the mandatory grapefruit shooter exhaust, and more vinyl than Lanny's record collection. ;-)
There's something to be said for the reviewers take on the relatively high level of performance versus the fun at any speed of a more pedestrian model. Isn't this basically the same principle that leads many of us to believe that we're having more fun on a daily basis than the average Boxster S driver? To me, on the street, the fun is at and near the limits. Being able to play in that area allot is simply a blast! I just have a hard time imagining that there's that much difference between the two models.
Chuck, maybe I'm falsely advertising something w/o even knowing it. For me the BBB is Black exterior, Black top and Black interior. I used to call my
92SE "BB&T" for Brilliant Black and Tan.
As for the power, I've got only a few minor upgrades (monsterflow intake, JR header and Borla dual exhaust) adding at best............15 or 20hp?
I do find it hard to believe that the regular MX-5 and this 'Sport' the reviewer refers to have that noticeable a power differential. Anyone have more info on this?
By the way Chuck, excuse my ignorance, what are you referring to as SBB? I'll take the S to be Supercharged but the BB?
They're two obsolete FM turbo kits: Small Ball Bearing and Big Ball Bearing. The SBB spooled up quicker, the BBB made more power. FM also offered sleeve-bearing turbos, which were cheaper. IIRC, all FM kits are now BBB, and they figured out how to spool them quickly through software refinements. Or something like that.
I am thinking that Leon would make a better sidekick than guest.
"The Lanny & Leon Show". Lanny can tell jokes and interview famous guests while Leon sits on the couch getting drunk and chuckling like Ed McMahon. :-)
I'd watch it, assuming that I could stay up for that 1:30 time slot....
