1999 C280 radio replacement

I have a 1999 C280. The radio has never been any great shakes and now I?d like to replace it. Its AM reception has always been horrible. I am very pleased with the BOSE speaker system and do not want to replace them. This radio has a built in Cassette tape and a CD player in the trunk. I?d like the replacement to have the same capabilities (at least). I could, however, do without the weather bands. If possible I?d like to get a system with an in dash CD player. The trunk system holds 6 CD?s, but I?d be happy with a dash unit that held just one. Are units available (with AM FM CD and Tape capability) which will fit into the dashboard space available in the C280. Can you suggest any? Who sells them? Who Sells and installs them? Could I just leave the CD player in the trunk (but disconnected)? How do I get the old unit out and the new one in? Any links to an instruction page would be very helpful. Are the speakers hooked up conventionally? That is do they just use wires, or are lasers and fiber optics involved?

Thanks in Advance, EJ in NJ

If you buy a new non-OEM unit, you most likely will lose communication with your CD changer due to the fiber optic connection. Not sure about any way to maintain Bose compatibility either. You might be able to keep your CD Changer functionality if you bought one of the more recent Audio 10(?) models that the Euro MBs had. Some even had shortwave instead of WB. You should check your AM antenna connections to make sure they are not the cause of your problems.
