87 190D - how to adjust headlights

Dec 30, 2003 1 Replies

Hi,

has anyone done the headlight adjustment job? I read the service manual, it only says how the effect of the light adjustment should be, without explaining how to do it. Are there screws to adjust the angle?

thanks for sharing your knowledge, Ben

Plastic adjustment knobs are on the backside of the headlight assemblies. To do a "rough" alignment, you'll need a minimum level 25 foot roadway with a wall to mark the beam target. First, pull the car up to the wall. Measure where the center of the headlights are on the wall with some tape "X" or other marking. Back the car straight back 25 feet, then using the adjusters, aim the headlight beam so that it hits the X. You may want to put a cardboard or cloth other the other beam while doing one side. Adjust your foglights so that they hit lower than the X. This is just a rough, I would strongly suggest that you have the actual job checked by a shop sooner or later.
