My 1985 MB 300TD has started squeaking (like a hawk) when running and the automatic transmission is about to or right after shifting gears (like at ~45mph). Accelerating after the gear change - the noise goes away. The car runs fine - there are no problems with gear shifting. Just the silly noise.
Anyone know what would be making the noise?
Is this something to have looked at?

Just a guess, but if someone has installed steel wheels (e.g., for winter tires) using the bolts off the aluminum wheels (which are slightly longer) these can contact and/or bend the emergency brake mechanism. Jack up a rear wheel, remove one bolt, slowly rotate the wheel, and using a bright light look for fresh scrape marks at the bottom of the bolt hole.
