2001 Mini Cooper

I wonder if anyone has experience problems with: a) the wiring loom. Mine has just ceased functioning and had to be replaced? £450.00 and just out of warranty!! Luckily for me BMW were slipshod in reminding us about extending the warranty so have paid that which is cheaper than the repair. (b) front tyres wearing unevenly (one set per year outside edge only

- last set showing metal inside rubber). Dealers have repeatedly checked and can find say no fault. Service engineer said "must be the way you drive or the fact that those tyres only do 6,000 miles"!!!. I have 23,000 on the clock and am not exactly a "boy racer".

Many thanks

Just in case you didn't get this from the "old" Mini newsgroup, to prove we are not all arses.

To be really sure I would get the tracking checked independently. Is the uneven wear on one side or both, I have been told it could be due to turning into a driveway in full lock the same way every time. In my case the nearside tyre as I turn left into the drive every day and it effectively scrubs the tyre as that one near enough stands still (if you know what I mean) This is advice for any car and the local wheel alignment centre more or less told me I turned left into the drive and "did I live on a close" they could of coarse said they had adjusted the tracking and charged me but they didn't as the print out showed the alignment as correct.

Anyway just an idea, and I don't even have a Mini. (but my son does)

Hi and thanks for replying Neil - the wear is on both front tyres about 2 inches from edge working inwards toward body of car (sorry I am not very technical). I will get it checked independently. Thank you.
