1995 Mitsubishi Galant Rear Wheel Bearing

Hi folks.

One of the rear wheel bearings on my girlfriend's '95 Mitsubishi Galant (disc brakes/ABS), is on its way out and having talked her out of a 300 mile round trip to Bristol, muggins here is now charged with replacing same (the wheel bearing, not the girlfriend - although...).

Looking at the manual, the bearing appears to be a non-service part - the whole hub/carrier unit has to be replaced. While this does have its upsides, the primary downside is cost - I'm seeing prices in excess of

100ukp for a replacement. Has anyone tried servicing the rear bearings, or if not, do you know of a reasonably priced supplier for the whole thing? Mitsubishi breakers in the Woking/Leatherhead (UK) area would be useful too...

Other than that, any advice before I start pulling it apart? Anything that tends to need replacing along the way? And how do you get the ABS wheel sensor off the back of the hub without immediate access to the special tool and a press?

... I do have an impressive collection of hitty things for such occasions, but this may be one of the rare occasions when knowledge and finesse does the trick... :)

Thanks for your help.

PJ.

DO NOT GO TO A BREAKERS, there's no need. My wife has a FTO which is a=20 similar set up. Mitsubishi want the thick end of =A3300 for one. I=20 managed to find one online for =A363. You can fit the later ones that the= =20 motor factors stock but the ABS ring doesn't fit.

Go to this website and give this bloke a ring...he's a mine of=20 information and where we got our hub assembly from:

I'm not prejudiced. I hate everyone equally.
