I have a very good auto gearbox, and want to store it till it is needed, is there any thing i should do before i pack it in a wooden crate

Drain the old oil and put in fresh. plug up the axle holes with some rag. Clean the exterior as much as possible to remove corrosion and rust on the steel parts and road dirt, then spray it with some sort of anti-corrosion product that leaves a film. Then wrap the whole lot up in plastic and seal with duct tape.
