bmw e30 3 series weirdness

anyone know what causes sudden lack of power on the m40 318i engine ? this usually leads to brown trouser moments in rushhour - its always totally out of the blue might not do it for weeks then one day itll just do it with no warnings - well keeps me on my toes, ive tried changing allsorts - idle control valve - cleaned all the inlet side - fuel filter etc etc etc, fuel pump relay, never known a problem like this thats so hard to diagnose - it happens so rarely - altho seems to do it more with the tank quarter full (im suspecting fuel pump pickup or something) but then that was proved wrong the other day too!! - im at a loss to what it is - enjoying the car tho - costs me next to nothing to fix.

when you find out.. please let me know! my b/f has same problem!

He has fully serviced it, dismantled the engine, put it back together, changed the same parts as you and more, even changed the fuel pump.

It goes ok for a while, then suddenly it comes back! Not fun with motorway driving!

its an E reg E30 318i.. same as yours?

If my E34 535i is anything to go by, BMW specialise in random faults!

Common cause of cutting out is the fuel pump relay.

"ive tried changing allsorts - idle control valve - cleaned all the inlet side - fuel filter etc etc etc, fuel pump relay,"
