some more questions for you lot out there hopefully all this in car computer gubins will be worth while in the search for a converter that plugs into the ciggy lighter and you can then plug a normal household plug into the other end to run normal household stuff on I've seen them about but without knowing what they care called all I'm getting are mobile phone chargers and in car DVD players
what am I doing wrong and who can provide some suggestions for what I want?

Invertors. Decent ones start around £60.
150watt inverter. Maplins probably do one that is adequate for about =A325-30 or a decent=20 one as Conor said for about =A360.

What sort of camera? You sure you can't just buy a ciggy lighter power lead for it anyway?
Video camera and VCR or Laptop and Webcam type thingy, for recording track action.

That's a 1000w jobbie - you could nearly run a bloody oven from it :)
If it's just to charge a camera, you just want a teeny little 200w jobbie. You oughtta be able to pick one up for
it's a little itty bitty camera that needs a 3 amp fuse :)
I don't think they go much lower than 3 amp, I'd treat that as "is protected by a 3A fuse" and work from the consumption figure, which is probably milliamps.
In real terms a phat computer including the monitor is still well inside 3 amps last I heard and unless it is something like a kettle, fan heater or electric oven it will not require kilowatts.
