What kind've boost/power is standard? What's the boost at now, and what will a remap give? These aren't accusing questions heh, I'm genuinely interested :-)

Well. Its the TDi so its fly by wire with Bosch EDC and is supposed to be

125bhp but very lazy and progressive. Interestingly the t2 turbo is exactly the same spec as on the saab 9000 2.0's...

Stock boost is 10psi, after 3 turns of the rod we're at 12psi peak, but it is woefully short of fuel.Definately more grunty higher up, but the lack of fuelling is holding it back low down.

A power box reputedly gives 150bhp and 70 more torques, and a remap abit more. Neither affect boost as its mechanically controlled.

The remap is fixed, where as the power box is adjustable, which is what i am favouring even though its abit more crude, as there could be wind of a larger downpipe and possibly different spec turbo / intercooler setup in the future.

I fancy doing a bit of that on the Xantia, seeing as how it's had a stay of execution due to wifey's eyes..... but I've no idea how a boost gauge attaches, or what sort of boost gauge to buy. Fuelling and wastegate I can do ok. I have no idea about this diesel malarky.

If you are anything like the bloke I know with an STI WR1 a boost gauge like an oil pressure gauge attaches by simply linking the lighting wires to the switchable live on the radio. Job done.

Heh, I'd like to really know what boost it's putting out, as it seems flat as a witches tit at the moment..

It's not like he doesn't have the money to get it done right he just approached it half arsed.

Find one of the thin boost pressure lines, such as that off of the brake servo (although some people take it from other places) and put a T-piece in it (available from Halfords as things for windscreen washer jets), then plug the boost gauge into that, and route it inside and fit it somewhere - either in a pod or otherwise as discreet or brazen as you like. I think the best place is if you have an ashtray or something that has a flap covering it - then you can just flick it open to reveal the boost gauge when you want, and close it when you don't want :-)

Cheers Dan. It's a s**te old Xantia Diesel, I don't need a permanent gauge so it'll be run on a pipe through the window while I check and reset the boost, then hidden in a box until i need it for something else.

The MX-5 is being picked up on Saturday, going to keep the Xant for another month or so until wifey's eyes are thoroughly investigated and we know what's going on.

I paid £4300 for a W plater with 57K on it. It's dark metallic blue with a factory hard top, FSH, one owner, full MOT and a bit of tax left on it. Might be a bit over the odds, but it's mint, all the HPI checks out ok. I would have got it today, but it's hard with only me driving at the mo so my mates taking me up at the weekend to get it.

Now I can get the spanners out again, and spend all the money we are supposed to be saving for the US :-p

Zero to about 20psi (1.25 bar) would be fine. A petrol-one if you like, although you will never see vacuum shown, so half the dial will never be ventured into..

Attach it to the aneroid line at the injector pump is probably the simplest on the XUD.

I think stock boost on these is 14psi or 1 bar. They are safe to about 17psi after which you are asking too much from the turbo and risking the headgasket, but respond best to tweaks to the fuel delivery screws, both the max delivery and the aneroid settings.

On the GT4, I used the ignition feed to the ciggy lighter to light the el, and the illumination for the lighter to operate the dimmer wire so the EL backlight wasn't dazzling at night.

Check your pipes too & from the intercooler, I was coming up the M1 in mine a few years ago around 70mph pulling up a hill & suddenly lost loads of power. I was sick as a parrot, thought the turbo had gone, but I'd being doing something under the bonnet at the weekend & forgot to retighten one of the jubilee clips & it had worked itself loose & got disconnected.

Heh. One of of my turbo Saabs, I'd be cleaning out the throttle body, TPS and associated pipes. I took it for a quick drive afterwards and it stopped about a mile from the house. It was low on fuel, so I just presumed it had ran out. So I walked back home, got my can, walked to the petrol station and filled it up, then walked all the way up the long hill out of Marlow Bottom up to the car. Put the fuel in, it still wouldn't run. Opened the bonnet and the intercooler > throttle body pipe had come off, no need for my long walk...
