Fiat 500 Mini Review.

Had a drive of my sisters new Fiat 500 in white at the weekend.

Very nice to drive, more gismos in the cabin than I was expecting but quite stylish too and a lively 1.4 engine which puts out 100bhp IIRC, power is very progressive and seems to hold well to the red line. Quick chuckable too.

I only got to drive round local roads, no fast A roads or motorways. You seem to be fairly high up in the cabin which kind of gives it a 'big car' feel.

Anybody else driven one?

Haven't driven one, but its based on the Ford Ka, so it can't be bad.

Yes, it's OK but the Panda is just so much better.

In what way?

I'd say the panda is better value for money , and a bit more spacious. I prefer the styling of the 500 (though the 100hp panda looks great) and = its holding it's value a lot better.

Is there much difference in the way they drive?

Practicality, the actual experience of driving it, as opposed to owning one, and how it feels in its natural environment the Italian city.

Not really, I think the 500 is a bit more lardy and rolls more than the Panda. It's quote big for what it is. The real plus is the styling but that palls after about a week of driving.

The real clincher for me is that the for the price of the low-end 500 I can have the Panda 4x4.

Agreed, the Panda looks very good I have to admit, I think if the 500 were lower in price it would be a more even playing field.

Yes, back to back with the new Ka. I drove the 500 first and liked it... but the Ka has a more supple ride and a sharper turn-in, just needs more power. Looks over-styled but you'd adjust or get used to it.
