There's some hope because the court is allowing them to trade on licence for a time. However they have to notify all customers that they are trading while bankrupt so I can see that putting customers off. And yes, I reckon that unless someone works out a serious rescue package soon then any damage to a Veyron's chassis and it will be written off. I can see one adverse effect being that many great cars will become museum pieces as the owners get too scared to drive them.

Have they gone bust because the orders have dried up? > Or have that collection of makers screwed them on price to the point > they can't make a living?

I think it's the latter. Italian small businesses are really crap at job costing in my experience, they often come back to the client and say "can we have some more money please?"

Call me a cynic but I can already hear the phones ringing.

Hello Mr ... this the Audi R8 (or whatever) dealer. The chassis maker is in recievershhip and there won't be many more made. They are going to be very rare and will be a good investment. As we pre ordered on spec we have one of the last few chassis allocated if you can place an order this week it's yours. If we haven't got a firm sale by the end of week they will re-allocate it.

The R8 is a real puzzler. It's a current model and I don't think Audi intended it to be a limited edition. I assume that back in Ingolstadt some team is busy going through lists of carbon composite specialists and trying to obtain the moulds from Val Vibrata before they get damaged or scrapped.

That can't be right, the Lamborghinis are spaceframes with carbon fibre panels. The Ferrari 430 & 612 are aluminium. The 456 and 575 aren't either but I'm not sure if they're spaceframes or aluminium.

The R8 monocoque is all aluminium so it won't be a problem, you sure it's not just some parts for the R8 racecar that they made?

Yup, sorry careless typing costs lives and I didn't carefulluy enumerate the parts for each model. Bite me.

For the Lambos it's body panels. For the Ferraris it's the interior for the 430 and 612, the bonnet for the 456, the body for the 575 and the monocoque for the F50 and Enzo.

Christ but you're anal BTW.

Hang on, I'll sharpen up my eyetie.

Hmm, still no better off, it says "Telai" which is "window frames" in my vernacular. I don't thnk it's window frames in this context but there's not enough text there to tell. Do the alloy panels hang on carbon composite frames?

%steve%@malloc.co.uk (Steve Firth) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying:

"...the carbon fibre monocoque for each of them..."

A couple of panels and some bits of trim is a slightly different matter to a complete tub...

Yes as I said, careless typing costs lives, and ICBA to add "with the following exceptions".

Had I floundered or had anything to apologise for I would be suitably ashamed.

What's wrong with you? All I did was point out that what you said was wrong, how dare I question your wisdom. No need to be a d*****ad about it.

The only major bits of carbon fibre I can think of on them is the blades.

Nothing.

All I did was acknowledge it. However I don't see that a clinical list of every part in watchmaker detail was necessary to the point that I was making. If I had I've have constructed a bomb-proof, quibble resistant list.

I didn't say or imply any of the latter stuff, get your head out of your arse.

Do I have to litter smileys around my posts or something?
