Oooooops

If I can find a (cheap) local dyno that allows Nitrous...

Is that 'brave' for handling-wheelspin reasons or engine damage reasons?

I'm not going to comment on the state of my bum, but it shouldn't be a problem!

I'll check the plugs too, though.

Did I say I was above all that? Must have been a typo. Why else do you think I want Nitrous in a 1996 Mondeo?

I suspect gearbox destruction might come into it there as well :-)

Luckily, it'll be a manual. Not quite as flimsy as the auto in the Rangie.

Reminds me, I need to change the transmission fluid and filter again.

True, but he mentions wheelspin reasons, and I think with a 50bhp shot it won't light them up off the throttle in 3rd upwards, so I beleive he's referring to low gear use, and that shot of torque in 1st or 2nd at 3krpm is surely going to blow that gearboxes to smitherines?

Maybe, but the Vitesse has the 'big box' manual in which can take quite a bit of grief. TVRs used it for years, IIRC.

Are you absolutely sure about that?

I remember trev of noswizard fame having 3 stages and 800 hp on a stock Rover in an escort mk1, with borg warner 65 gearbox at the strip.

Its engine went bang (really badly! Nothing left) but the box was fine...

That cool :-)

...but what does it have it do with the gearbox in Paul's 1996 2.0 16v Mondeo :-) ?

Possibly but the clutch is a safety valve, as is the tyre...

The BW is a whole world stronger than the ZF 4HP22...

My last Vitesse was producing a decent amount of power and the box in that was perfectly fine.

The Rangie, on the other hand, even when the boost is backed down to 5 psi is giving the autobox a hard time. (5psi = 250ish bhp, 300lb ft)

But, Paul is *still* talking about a 1996 2.0 16v Mondeo, manual.

Well apparently the Rover V8 is a good fit in there... with a RWD conversion...

Hmm.

Of course Timo's A8 has made me wonder whether I wouldn't be better off just getting a megabarge instead...

That sounds like the best idea so far :-) Buy that off Timo!

It's possible to buy the sensor, controller and display for £100-ish though, maybe cheaper than you think ?

And how will it help?

Stop being a willyface and get it bought ;-) The auction finished with no bids, you could've had it for £999... Imagine that. Hell you could probably get that for the Mondeo on the bay if you give it a good write up, with plenty of pictures, and say nothing about nitrous kits hehe ;-)

NO. Even with petrol at under a quid a litre, which made me waver about it all over again. Sorry Timo.

If it was my car with a 12 month death sentence instead of 'erselfs I'd be in there - but she won't drive the Mondeo because it's 'too big' so I can't see her getting on with an A8.

And it would be a waste to get it for the short commutes I do nowadays -

10 minutes each way, the occasional 60 mile round trip and only a few longer trips. Not what it was made for, continent crossing.

Naaaaah, that's the S4 - the standard Quattro 4.2 V8 with a bit less power (but still a nicely large amount) is the one for the commute :-) And imagine what it would do to that 60 mile round trip, and those few long trips... It'd crush them like the combined weight of the members of this group on an apple.

Or on an apple sized diamond, as I suppose, we're talking a fair weight assuming the make up is similar to the small Wetwang Chippy meet - so we'd have like, a load of porkers, and a few really skinny tall dudes :-)
