Ask me again in April :)
Probably won't have it by then. It's going in Ad-Mag as soon as the rebuild is finshed...I need a new toy :o)
Let me know if your after one though as I have a few contacts who have a lot of these pass through their hands. It's how I got such a late raider.

More like £500 for a set of top nick second hand ones m8 : /
I didn't expect anything, just an idea that popped into my head "what rusty cars would people want to renovate". To be fair I put the skyline in there to piss Steve off :P
IMO the type of cars that I am talking about, are a labour of love. It's about buying a car that you admired as a kid and and re-createing it into an image you want. It's not about how much they are worth when you get bored of them...
Triumph Acclaim Avon Turbo then if i can ever find one :)
I'd also love to restore a Forp popular in american dragster stylee.
I lovc them when done properly. V8 etc.

Do you mean this, I thought they only went out to 3.9 or so from overboring?
You can get 4.0 rover v8's.
You wouldn't get a GTR, but you might get a GTS or GTS-T auto with a shagged engine for rebuilding.
Remember, the car buying budget is £2k, the rest of the project is unknown.
You could pick up many a car with a fantastic rolling shell, and no, or shagged engine, and have a dream engine built to go in.
This is true i s'pose. Ok, i'll have a Triumph Acclaim Avon Turbo if i can find one :D Or my mate has an MGB GT 1.8 (possibly) thing in his garage he had given, only one little bit of rust where its got a little dint next to the light, thats kinda comedy, so maybe one of them :D
Thats the idea, it's easy if you have an infinate budget.
To spell it out, I think Abo meant bore and stroke, but was asking to see if he knows about something that I don't.
The 3.5 has a 3.5 inch wide piston. Everything else you're likely to find will have a 3.7 inch wide piston, which gives you 3.9 litres of capacity on the standard stroke (also marketed as a 4.0 litre engine, although it isn't any larger.)
AFAIK the larger engines have increased stroke and the same 3.7 inch bore. Which is ok for torque but not so good for power as you are making the pistons move up and down further, which puts significantly higher accelerations on them for a given engine speed.
Ok, er...
1) Austin Maxi 2) Rover P6B 3) Triumph Herald Convertible 4) Ford Scorpio Cosworth 5) Toyota Celica 1600 GT (old shape pillarless coupe)HST, I'm not sure these can all be had for 2000, but assuming so. The Herald is probably more expensive, for instance.
You have old Triumphs, have you ever seen an Acclaim Avon Turbo?
Yes, if memory is correct. But I didn't bother to look close up. I probably would have, if I had realised there were only maybe two others in existence, although I personally think there may be some very good reasons for that, having sort of shared an Acclaim in my murky past (& wouldn't really want one.)
The turbo belonged to the sports six club,
The budget is undefined, though, for things like that. :)
For stupidly rare specials, there was a Le Mans TR7 twin turbo V8 and I think one came up for sale not so long back, probably not too expensive (12 grand, maybe?) but really not a car that I would want to drive, as such.
