Volvo C30

I've been looking at new cars this past couple of days, like brand new, as I might have to do a lot of hospital mileage soon so I'm thinking I keep the Vee for weekends, and go back on the Motability scheme and have it as a second car for the long runs/comfy ness. Quite like the Volvo C30, specifically in 1.8 R-Design SE Sport spec. Reviews suggests the seats are comfy, and it has cruise/air etc - and the SE gives extra shiny bits and 18s, which is of course quite important :-) Also Evo say it has a more dynamic feel to the front end than the Focus (no idea what that means though...) Does anyone have any experience of them? Preferably actual experience...

I went to have a look yesterday but local dealer (who has a good rep for service so I wasn't put off) didn't have one there for me to sit in - I'll be going back with an appointment to try out of course.

Other suggestions are of course welcome, the list is here -

And the less the inital payment is the better (the 1.8 C30 described above is like, £1,400, don't really want to go over that).

Dude, get an MX-5. Then you'll have 2 impractical cars (1 of which is much better than the other and has a roof that goes up and down). If you get a Volvo, you'll never drive the impractical Clio and it'll waste away to nothing and be sad and so will we.

Alternatively, get a car that can tow the Clio, so you can take it places on holiday on a trailer and enjoy it when you're not in the Hospital.

Or, and I know this will really excite some members of the group, simply LPG the Clio!

There you go. Sorted.

I can't LPG the Clio - that's just illegal (or it should be). Also I suspect a space issue for the tank. I don't want to tow things, that sounds like a hassle.

I have considered the MX5 though. It doesn't have to be practical, just comfortable. Although been able to get the dog and my mum in the car at the same would be handy, as I seen to have to often drive them places in the Arosa. So I'm going to specify it needs back seats.

I will drive the Clio because when I'm going to town, there is nothing more awesome than parking up right smack in the middle on the pedestrian area and leaving it there, then coming back to people taking photos of it with their mobile phones :-) I do love a good pose. That and imagine how fast the crappy Volvo will make it feel :D

GLOL! Where's the LPG gear going to go? Oh yeah, I know - in a trailer :-)

I like them a lot - do it. That is all I have to say on the matter

Alternatively get an SD1, perferably in VDP spec with a V8. You'll still get people taking pictures and waving at you, but you'll be sitting in an armchair, wafting along in complete comfort ;)

For that you could get a "sensibley priced" old starship diesel with a=20 towbar to haul the clio to fun days.

Including insurance (cos obviously all my NCD is on the Clio), tax, tyres and maintenence?

The Clio isn't a fragile racer than needs towing heh, I just don't want to heap the mileage on it becasue it seems a waste of a nice low miler, and I don't wanna park it in Leeds/Birmingham at all unless I have too. And also, when you feel shitty, it's quite a tiring car to drive, loud, and you need to keep your senses awake in dodgy conditions.

See fishmans technocolour hearse ;) Ideal for leaving shitty town, will run on lard if you melt it first, and can be insured by one of those specialists as an everyday classic for 1/3rd of fuckall, because they don't take no claims into account as they don't accrue it either.

Think the same about a diesel volvo 7** or 2** estate. The 2** will be as slow as a slow thing, but you will appreciate the Clio more when you drive it.

You appear to be slowly becoming SteveH. With that in mind, may I suggest a Passat TDI SE, or possibly a BMW 520d. :-)

Volvo C30, designed for all those people who miss the look of the old Fiat Bravo.

Pah!

SEs are so last year.

This year's car to have is the Highline.

I like the C30. If the D5 Auto pops up on our revised list, I'm having one.

He'll be sad. We'll just turn up at the hospital with a bunch of grapes and CIHAGM, and therefore be happy.

I'd rather have the S40 in that spec, if I was buying a Volvo, like i said before, I can't abide the rear of the 30...

Oh I don't know, you could like stick the LPG tank in the front so you have nice pipes of high pressure gas running to a compartment inside the cabin. Loan of camcorder offer still applies from last time...

Just a thought - isn't the Clio running gear related to the engine donor car, the Espace? So couldn't you fit a 2.2HDi in there?

Waits for Dervy with "Or fit a TDCi" suggestion.

I'm sure it'd be entirely possible, if Renault regularly used the PSA engine range in their own cars.
