1 minute of silence please

For the poor 99 black GT fallen prey to hurricane Frances. Who put a big tree on her from the front to the rear bumper. That not being enough, due to the tree being in the way, the battery could not be removed. So yes, she caught fire as well...

Sorry, no pictures yet. I'll try an dget some if my heavy work schedule allows it. (South side of Wheeler, between Kingsway and Seffner-Valrico in Brandon, FL...

Luckily I am. Even more lucky is that she's not mine. But I am sure her owner is very sad as I've seen her before and she was alwasy gleaming and well maintained...

My sincerest condolences. But I am glad you were not in the car when Frances destroyed her... still a sad affair.

I heard a story on NPR talk radio today about a guy in Fla. who woke up to find his neighbor's car apparently backed into his driveway. He thought this because his house sustained minor damage, while his neighbor's house, whose driveway was directly across his, sustained more severe damage. The only question was, "why did you park it against my garage door?"

When they finally talked, the neighbor vehemently denied having moved it, and pushing it up against his garage door, even though the guy wasn't upset about it at all. Then they noticed... black marks leading directly from one house to the next. Apparently Frances decided to park his car across the street.

Now, I trust NPR not to report urban legend... skeptical as I was, I heard of some weird things happening with Gloria in the 80s when I lived on the E. Coast.. did you hear that story?

Umm boy...Well you know what the owner's obligation is when a good horse goes down. Put it out of it's misery. Like that MASH episode with Potter shooting his jeep after Burns flattened it with a tank. Finally, have a bugler play taps as it's towed away and salute it. Seems like the honorable thing to do...

As much a fanatic as I am, I always remember and never forget - when it comes to the sheer brutality of nature, a car, a building, a tree can all be replaced. People can't.

Congratulations on making it through.

Not to sound insensitive toward the owner of the deceased car, but wouldn't it have made sense to park the car AWAY from trees when a hurricane is knowingly approaching? Anytime there is even a threat of a thunderstorm, I make sure to move all my cars away from any objects that could fall or otherwise hit the car in any way during a storm situation, even if it means parking a few blocks away or asking a neighbor to borrow their driveway for a few hours, whatever. This Mustang that was killed by the hurricane... almost seems like an insurance deal to me, the owner probably wanted to get rid of the car so he/she parked it under a TREE during a hurricane! Of course the chances are very great that a tree will fall in a hurricane. And the car went on fire too? Why? How? Maybe when the owner saw that the tree damage wasn't bad enough for the insurance company to consider it a total, he or she ran out and lit the car on fire just to make sure it would be a total loss and thus get full recoup.

Sorry to hear it Paul, I was in the same storm and the eyewall passed right over you guys in Brandon and then passed over me to the north. Luckily the giant Oak in my front yard held up, but the wet ground gave way and my neighbor had a big one crash into their roof. Hopefully your insurance will help out and you can get an 05, that is if they ever come out. :->
