2012 Z/28 Likely To Get 556

Another day, another Chevrolet Camaro Z28 confirmation. Two people familiar with the project have once again confirmed that General Motors=92 Chevrolet division will soon debut a high-performance version of the Camaro under the Z28 banner.

According to two Detroit Free Press sources, Chevrolet will revive the Camaro Z28 for the 2012 model year. Although historically inaccurate, the Z28 will sit atop the SS in the Camaro range.

The Z28 is slated to us a variant of the 6.2L supercharged V8 used in the Cadillac CTS-V and Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. The sources quote the engines output =93between 500 and 600 horsepower=94, but it is widely believed the car will arrive with the CTS-V=92s 556 horsepower rating.

Set to do battle with the Ford Shleby GT500, the Camaro Z28 will arrive in late 2011 or early 2012. Look for the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 to make its first public appearance at the Detroit Auto Show.

Can't wait to see the new Z/28 and GT500 go at it!
